Events

As a Living History Group, we attend a large number of WWII and 1940s-themed events throughout the year, including parades, airshows, swing dances, convoys, veteran's reunions, and public displays. We hope to educate the public about this period in history through living history displays, exhibitions of artifact collections, public ceremonies and events, and educational programs. Following is a schedule of events where the AAF Living History Group can be seen.

Upcoming Events

Mar 13, 2010  - WWII Wedding: Martha Watson and Brian Caldwell request the presence of any reenactors interested in sharing the special day of our wedding. Bring your gear or weapon displays, vehicles and tents to set up for the public to view. There will be a public battle if numbers permit. Wedding ceremony at 4 pm Saturday, with all reenactors be in their country's Class A Dress Uniform. Once the fort has closed to the public there will be a reception with food, drinks, music and dancing, and a 1940s movie will be shown. Click here for the event flyer. Mar 19, 2010 - Mar 20, 2010 - Museum of the American GI WWII Weekend: WWII weekend with flea market, vehicle displays, encampments, and a public show battle. Click here for a PDF with information. Where: College Station, Texas

Apr 10, 2010  - Burnet Air Show: CAF Airshow commemorating the "Spirit of the Flying Tigers." Gates will be open to the public at 9 a.m. Static aircraft displays to the public will be available from 9 to 11:30. The program begins at 12. Air Show performances start at 12:30 p.m. and finishes around 4 p.m. Click here for the airshow website. Where: Burnet, Texas

Apr 17, 2010 - Apr 18, 2010 - Camp Mabry Muster Day: Battle reenactment of 36th Infantry Divisions breakthrough of the Siegfried Line in March 1945. Time Line of Texas military history. American Heroes Celebration and Air Show. All living history groups and military vehicle collectors or clubs related to Texas military history are invited to attend. Jun 19, 2010  - Audie Murphy Day: Audie Murphy Day in Farmersville, Texas began in 1999 as a solemn remembrance of Audie Murphy, the most decorated soldier of World War II, who came home to a heros welcome in downtown Farmersville in 1945. Today this Main Street Program event draws thousands and honors our local veterans as well as our "hometown hero" Audie Murphy. Popular activities over the years have included a parade, (complete with local Vets riding in historic vehicles), a brief program giving biographical information about Audie Murphy, a roll call of local veterans, and a military jet flyover.
