Lelton h. Pittman was a Staff Seargent with the 6TH Infantry Division U.S. Army. He was a private in the begining of his campaign in the Pacific Theatre. Prvt. Pittman was promoted to Staff Sgt. Pittman with a field promotion after most of the men in his unit, all of the NCO's, were killed in a brutal assault in the Phillipines. During this assault, what was left of his unit became trapped behind enemy lines. If not for the help of a Phillipino family, Sgt. Pittman and the remaining survivors would not have made it back to their own lines. Sgt. Pittman was proud to have done his service for his country and he was very proud to have been a member of the "Sight Seein' Sixth". May God take care of Sgt. Pittman as we laid him to rest in Feb. of 1999. He was a great soldier, but he was an even better husband, father, and grandfather. We love him very much and miss him so very much. God bless all of our WWII veterans.
