Radio Operator

The radio operator's job was to monitor the bomb group's frequencies for changes to the flight plan, and to enable the pilot to broadcast to other planes in the formation. The radio operator was also a "record keeper" - he logged all radio events as well as noting things such as which planes went down, when and where, the number of parachutes seen bailing out of the plane, etc. The radio operator was also usually responsible for tending to wounded crewmembers, and upon return to base, for signaling with a flare gun in the event of wounded crewmen on board.
