Wallace F. Monda, Staff. Sgt.

My dad, Wallace was from Portland, Oregon and entered the Army Air Corp on 3/15/1942 and was discharged at Fort Lewis, Washingon 12/21/1945. Deseased on 12/30/1987 leaving a wife, son and daughter.

He was in the 340th. Ftr. Sqd. 348th. Ftr. Grp. 5th Airborne Division and was a Radar Repairman on airborne equipment. He was also an instructor at Boca Raton Field, Florida for the Technical Training Command.

He received the American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Metal and the Philippine Liberation Metal.

While stationed in the Philippines, there was an island across the way that at night the Japanese would wade across to try and destroy our planes, so there were gun battles every night. They use to make brandy with all the fruit they could get, and one time a hurricane came through and wiped out their tents and all their brandy!!!

Attached pictures are of my dad and his squadron. If you recognize anyone, contact me(Carol)at my email address: basketgranni@sbcglobal.net
