| I enlisted in the Air Corps on Sept. 1, l939 at Randolph Field in San Antonio, TX. Before the year was out I was transferred to March Field in California and eventually assigned to the 32nd bomb squadron in the l9th bomb group. The group had been moved to Albuquerque, NM when we were reassigned to the Philippines and I was aboard a troop ship with other enlisted men approaching Pearl Harbor when Japanese attacked, but the captain turned the ship around and we returned to San Francisco. I then entered pilot training and served in the ETO as a pilot in Troop Carrier Command. I have tried repeatedly to learn the names of Capt. Colin Kelly's crew because I think I might have known them, but I have never been able to find out, which strikes me as mysterious. Can you help? |
