Jack Cecil Davis385th BG, 551st Squadron,Great Ashfield, March, 1944 to 2Aug1944. Staff Sergeant, Ball-Turret Gunner. Completed 31 missions, and was shot down on his 32nd near Paris. Missing in Action, evaded capture for 21 days, returned to England when Paris was liberated. Earned Purple Heart, Air Medal with 3 Oak leaf Clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross. He earned another Purple heart in Korea. He remained in the Army Reserve until retiring as a full Colonel. He died 4Apr1989 from cancer directly linked to his participation in atomic bomb testing in Nevada in 1952. |
